LED Christmas Lights Can Help You Save on Your Electric Bill
Are you tired of paying high electric billing to light up your house during the Holiday season? Even if you don't decorate like Clark Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, you don't want to cringe when you get your December electric bill.
As an electrical contractor, Mesa Electric likes to offer alternatives to our customer in Castle Rock, Parker, Kiowa, Franktown, Monument, and Colorado Springs. With that in mind, here is our Holiday suggestion:
Consider switching from traditional incandescent lights to more energy efficient LED Christmas lights,
especially for larger Christmas bulbs.
LED Christmas lights can save you money in the long run because they use less energy and the bulbs don't have to be replaced as often. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, LED lights consume 80% less electricity and last 25 times longer than incandescent lights.
The estimates for cost and energy savings are varied, but you should be able to save anywhere from $1 to $70* during the Holiday season by switching to the more energy smart lights. The saving are particularly notable with the larger bulbs.
Using an example from Xcel Energy, customer who use one strand of:
100 LED mini-lights for five hours per day will save about 50 cents per month, per strand
25 LED standard C7 lights for five hours per day will save more than $1.50 per month per strand
25 LED standard C9 lights for five hours per day will save more than $2 per month per strand
Most people use multiple strands of Holiday lights for up to two months... this adds up!
For those who use 15 strands of:
Mini-lights for five hours per day can save more than $13 over the course of the Holiday season
LED standard C7 lights for five hours per day could save almost $50 during a two-month period
LED standard C9 lights for five hours per day might see as much as $70 in seasonal savings
Of course, the savings aren't always realized immediately because you'll have to buy new Christmas lights - and LED lights are more expensive than incandescent lights. but they will pay for themselves over time.
Another advantage of using LED lights is that they are safer to use for your indoor decoration because they don't get hot to the touch.
